Career
Gonçalo is a partner in the Banking and Finance and Capital Markets practices. Over the last 15 years he has gained a comprehensive experience in advising leading international and domestic banks, other financial institutions and asset managers in debt capital markets, with a particular focus on structured finance, including securitisation of all asset classes, CDO’s CLO and equity linked notes, but also EMTN programmes, covered bonds, standalone Eurobonds and commercial paper. He has also a strong focus in derivatives and regulatory work for the asset management industry.
Gonçalo has also advised in important ECM transactions, such as take-overs, as well as several distressed debt transactions.
Before joining PLMJ he worked in another leading Portuguese law firm and a valuable international experience, having been seconded to the Capital Markets department of Simmons & Simmons and Morgan Stanley’s Legal Department (Fixed Income Division), both in London.
Gonçalo earned his Law degree by the Law School of Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2002, where he also lectures. He is also entitled to practice under English law, being a member of the Law Society of England and Wales since 2007.
