The Legal 500 Brazil Awards 2020/21

The Legal 500 is extremely proud to recognise and celebrate Brazil’s leading legal practitioners at our inaugural Legal 500 Brazil Awards. Building on the strength of our ever-growing annual research, we believe it will come to be seen as the most prestigious and respected awards ceremony in Brazil’s corporate legal calendar.

Informed by the market insights and analysis derived from our independent annual research into both the private practice and in-house aspects of Brazil’s legal market, these awards seek to recognise those teams and practice groups that have particularly impressed -or otherwise exceeded expectations- over the past 24 months. On the corporate side, the categories also include an individual award: In-house lawyer of the year.

Obviously, the emergence of Covid-19 and its escalation into a full-blown global pandemic has complicated the delivery of these results – first causing a suspension of the original awards event, then a grudging acceptance that -at least on this inaugural occasion- it would not be possible to hold an in-person event, and finally our embracing of a virtual celebration as the best way to celebrate the ongoing achievements across the Brazilian legal market.

Perhaps the delay has been fitting, since this year The Legal 500’s Latin America edition celebrates its first decade in the market – ten years of having our researchers on the ground visiting firms at an ever-broader array of major Brazilian cities. And it is due to these years of on-the-ground and in-person research recognising Brazil’s leading private practice firms, most influential in-house lawyers as well as addressing the issue of diversity and inclusion across the profession, that we are confident the shortlists represent the highest echelon of legal service provision in each respective category. On this occasion, the selections are, necessarily, retrospective, to some degree, as we have combined our findings from both 2019-20 and 2020-21; if anything, however, this has allowed us even greater assurance and certainty in the selection of both the shortlists and the winners. So, please take the time to join us as we announce these our inaugural winners, those at the absolute forefront of corporate legal practice in South America’s powerhouse economy.

Looking ahead, it is also worthwhile noting that the award categories will be added to and further refined over time, so as to permit recognition of additional practices and regional legal-service offerings.
