Highlights for Christopher & Lee Ong have included advising a Vietnamese corporation, and its Malaysian parent company, on a $2.2bn project to develop a coal-fired thermal power facility at the Duyen Hai Power Complex (Vietnam), and acting for Petronas’ wholly-owned subsidiary Pengerang Power on the Pengerang co-generation plant in Johor, with a total project value of RM3bn. Christopher Lee, Eileen Yeoh and Shemane Chan lead the practice.

The ‘very active’ projects and energy group at Zain & Co is led by Rajiv Vijayanathan with the able assistance of Rebecca Jeyanthi Selvaraj. Key clients include Petronas, Permoladan Nasional and Express Rail Link. The practice has been involved in several major projects and has advised clients on the design, construction, and project financing of high speed railways, monorail systems and tolled highways.

Chooi & Company’s lawyers are experienced in acting for government agencies, employers, main contractors and subcontractors. Team head Chooi Mun Sou and David Ong are recommended. The practice is advising Tenaga Nasional on all its power purchase agreements relating to its bid (before the Energy Commission) to construct a large scale solar power plant.

Shearn Delamore & Co is advising China Railway Engineering Corporation on its joint acquisition, together with a local party, of a 60% interest in Bandar Malaysia – a major mixed development project comprising a new township, commercial offices, residential properties and a public transportation hub. SunPower Technology, Shattuck-St Mary’s school and Malaysian Resources Corporation are clients. Grace Yeoh heads the energy, natural resources and green technology practice, while Rodney Gomez is in charge of the infrastructure and projects practice.

Skrine acted for China General Nuclear Power Corporation on its acquisition of 1MDB’s power asset for the sum of $2.3bn. In another work headline, it assisted Murphy Oil Corporation with its $2bn sale of assets to Pertamina Malaysia Eksplorasi Produksi. Ivan Loo is recommended for his expertise.

Zaid Ibrahim & Co (a member of ZICO Law)’s ‘very professional and pragmatic’ projects and energy team has advised China Communications Construction Company on land reclamation matters, and assisted Tanjung Aru Eco Development and Pengerang Terminals with a variety of legal matters. Wong Kee Hooi and Hua Sia Yen are the key names.

Adnan Sundra & Low’s Deepak Sadasivan has provided legal support to RHB Investment Bank and BPMB, as joint principal advisers, lead arrangers, and joint lead managers in the sukuk issuances by West Coast Expressway.

Albar & PartnersChung Swee Loong and Sharifah Dalilah Albar advised SapuraKencana on a major notes issuing by its subsidiary, while Lily Tan assisted Maybank with its RM355m financing of the construction of the Langast 2 water treatment plant.

Kadir Andri & Partners advised Tenanga Nasional on the sale and purchase of electrical energy produced by hydroelectric plants located in Terengganu and by a combined cycle gas-fired plant in Selangor; Lee Jeuhan led handled this.

Boutique firm Naqiz & Partners assisted One River Power with the development and financing of three small hydro-power projects with an aggregate value of RM250m. Head of practice Fariz Azman Zainul Azman and Haflil Muhammad Feisol are noted for their work and expertise.

Led by the ‘very experiencedIain Sedgley, Sedgley & Co’s compact team advises developers, technology companies and projects departments. Sedgley together with Leow Kon Nee is advising an agency linked to a public body on several investment projects in the country. Its list of clients includes notable local and international corporations.

Mark Lim heads Wong & Partners’ projects and energy practice, which is regularly involved in some of the most notable inter-Asian investments in infrastructure projects. It advises local and international clients on related matters including infrastructure, energy and construction. Siaw Wan Lim is also a key name.

Zul Rafique & Partners acted for Genting and Suasana Cergas syndicated credit facilities worth $215m to part finance Genting Group’s equity investment in Resort World Las Vegas, which will construct and develop a resort project in Las Vegas; head of practice Loh Mei Mei led the advice.

Abdullah Chan & Co’s projects and energy practice acts for a variety of corporations in related oil-and-gas and energy projects. Vincent Chan is the key contact.

Azmi & Associates is well known for its advice on construction and project matters including financing, construction and development, operation and maintenance, and property finance transactions. Haji Mohd Rasheed Khan is the key contact.

Headed by Koh Yew Chong and Angeline Lee Sze, Lee & Koh’s projects and energy group focuses on project financing, infrastructure (telecommunications and oil-and-gas), energy and construction. Clients include CIMB Bank, West Coast Expressway, Maybank, and RHB Investment Bank.
