Christopher & Lee Ong advised Zhiyan on the rescue and takeover of steel company Perwaja Holdings, and acted for gas provider SOXAL, (recently renamed Air Liquide Singapore Private) during the RM40m acquisition of a Malaysian gas manufacturer and provider. Christopher Lee and Shemane Chan have significant projects experience.

Kadir Andri & Partners’ Lee Jeuhan advised Tenaga Nasional on the sale and purchase of electrical energy generated by hydroelectric facilities in Terengganu and by a combined cycle gas–fired power plant in Selangor.

Skrine’s oil and gas, energy and utilities department is led by Faizah Jamaludin, who advised China General Nuclear Power Corporation on its $2.3bn acquisition of 1MDB’s power assets and assisted Murphy Oil Corporation with a $2bn sale of assets to Pertamina Malaysia Eksplorasi Produksi. Ivan Loo is highly regarded for litigation in this sector.

Highlights for the ‘very professional and practical’ team at Zaid Ibrahim & Co (a member of ZICO Law) included advising China Communications Construction Company on land reclamation works, and acting for Tanjung Aru Eco Development and Pengerang Terminals on a range of legal issues. Wong Kee Hooi and Hua Sia Yen are recommended.

Zain & Co advises Petronas on the Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (RAPID) project, and acts for Express Rail Link on a range of legal matters, including the restructuring of its concession agreement. Dzuhairi Jaafar and Rajiv Vijayanathan are the key names.

Highlights for Adnan Sundra & Low’s managing partner Deepak Sadasivan included assisting RHB Investment Bank and BPMB as joint principal advisers, joint lead arrangers and joint lead managers with sukuk issuances by West Coast Expressway.
