Editors' note
Welcome to the Legal 500 UK, which is now in its 39th year.
The current rankings are taken from the 2026 guide, which was published on 1st October 2025.
Research for the guide took place in early 2025, where researchers conducted thousands of interviews and assessed over 15000 submissions from law firms.
The 2026 London solicitors’ rankings span 145 practice areas which feature nearly 700 firms and over 8000 submissions. Distinct Family: Children and Family: Divorce and financial remedy rankings were added to the coverage for this guide, greater highlighting firm specialisms within this area of law. The London coverage overall features nearly 5000 firm rankings and over 6700 individual rankings.
Across the regional solicitor coverage, over 450 practice areas were researched across 14 regions, assessing over 700 firms and 7000 submissions. In total, the UK regional solicitor coverage spans over 5200 firm rankings and nearly 6700 individual rankings. New categories introduced include a new Energy and projects ranking in Wales, to reflect the region’s growing involvement in renewable energy, and new Regulatory and white-collar crime rankings in Guernsey and Jersey to highlight the changing regulatory markets in these offshore jurisdictions.
