Welcome to the Legal 500 Greater China.
The current rankings are taken from the 2026 guide, which was published on 19th November 2025.
Research for the guide took place in the Summer of 2025, where researchers conducted hundreds of interviews and assessed 3,357 submissions from law firms.
The 2026 Greater China rankings span 96 practice areas which feature 334 firms. The Greater China coverage overall features 1,871 firm rankings and 1,606 individual rankings.
Across the China coverage, 52 practice areas were researched covering both major Chinese firms, foreign firms, and regional heavyweights, assessing 278 firms and over 1,900 submissions. Over in Hong Kong, 129 firms participated in this year’s research, a total number of 563 firm rankings. In Taiwan- 29 firms are ranked and 221 firm rankings. In Macau, 12 firms are ranked in the new guide, and 18 lawyers obtained individual rankings.
The inaugural China Elite lawyer-led rankings, covering Beijing and Shanghai, and recognised outstanding corporate and M&A, and commercial disputes lawyers in both cities. In the first launch of the new rankings, we recommend a total of 286 lawyers across commercial, corporate and M&A and commercial dispute practice.
The Greater China coverage also includes coverage of the Hong Kong Bar, overseen by Legal 500’s global Bar editor, Will Tolcher. This year there are a total of 290 barrister rankings, a 13% increase in the total across all eight practice areas.
