Founder, Managing Partner Att. Dr. Cigdem Ayozger Ongun explains how the firm is adapting to clients’ changing needs
What do you see as the main points that differentiate SRP-Legal from your competitors?
SRP-Legal has significant expertise and practice in its key expertise areas of Data Protection – Data Privacy Law, Technology Law, Financial Technology Law, Telecommunications and Information Technologies Law, Competition Law both on consultancy and compliance services as well as litigation. SRP-Legal’s priority is to deliver the best quality of legal advice, and meet the client’s expectations. SRP-Legal differentiates itself apart from the market as it is not restricted by formal international alliances or having to cross-sell fixed networks. SRP-Legal acts as a trusted advisor to its clients and translates legal advice into business consequences and business actions.
As the Founder and Managing Partner of the firm, with a PhD on Data Protection Law, writer of the book “Personal Data Protection Law” which is on its 3rd edition, have been lecturing at universities as Associate Professor and leading roles in the NGOs that are active in technology area such as the Chair of Data Protection and Technology Law Group at the largest Industry and Business Association of Turkey, the Turkish Industry and Business Association (“TUSIAD”),.and founding Board Member and Chair of Law Group at the Women in Technology Association, I highly contribute to firm’s thought leadership role in the legal market with respect to technology law including IT and Telecoms Law.
Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?
After COVID-19, I believe there will be an extensive scope of demand response across legal sectors and practice areas. Companies will have to go through legally sound digital transformation. There is no doubt that the technology law will be on the rise. SRP-Legal is ready to meet those demands.
Still, the both Turkish PDP Law and GDPR Law compliance and implementation are very challenging and ties up many resources. There have been many new regulations, guidelines from the national and European authorities with respect to data protection and privacy issues so that more compliance projects ad more data breaches will be in the portfolios of the companies.
What’s the main change you’ve made in the firm that will benefit clients?
Following the emergence of the global disrupter COVID-19, SRP-Legal mobilized the remote work force overnight. SRP-Legal immediately started to use the tech collaboration tools and videoconferencing perform not only to perform work tasks but also to build an ongoing sense of team unity in the remote working environment as well as a stronger uninterrupted communication with the clients.
Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?
As a law firm specialized in the area of technology law, technology is leading the way we interact with our clients and the services we provide them, technology contributes to our agile services that we provide our clients in the legal and
regulatory landscape changing rapidly. Since we are a Technology Law focused law firm, we have always been understanding new technologies, aiming to learn the technology itself before adapting the laws and regulations so we were already working at today’s changing climate, nothing is new to us.
Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?
Due to the nature of our profession, we value client privacy. However, in general SRP-Legal stands for Strategy, Regulation and Policy which summarizes the value proposal we offer to our clients. We are actively contributing to the policy making and strategy determining of our clients and represent their interests before the public authorities and NGOs.
Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms – where do you see the firm in three years’ time?
The number of clients that are looking for stability and strategic direction from the law firms increasing, this contributes to our quality of service. As an emerging law firm, SRP-Legal’s growth has been fast and steady. Being a law firm practicing in the area of technology law, we are competent to ensure stability and show strategic direction as well as to think outside the box and manage disruptive climates.
SRP-Legal lawyers are continuously developing new techniques to adapt the industry changes, and to comply with the regulatory developments and best practices to ensure that our clients receive the best quality of legal advice.
