Multi-service law firm UMBRA – Strategic Legal Solutions in Indonesia often assists clients with renewable power matters nationally and internationally with expertise in hydro, mini-hydro, geothermal, wind, and solar projects. Additionally, the firm acts for various stakeholders, including the government, large private companies and NGOs, in connection with carbon trading, energy transition mechanism and regulation, renewable energy certificates, and other related matters.

Recently, senior partner Kirana D. Sastrawijaya led the representation of PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero) as the borrower in the corporate financing by Asian Development Bank of a geothermal project which will provide environmentally friendly base-load electricity to the Java-Bali electricity grid, reducing CO2 emissions by around 700,000 tons per year. Together with other team members, she also represented PT PLN (Persero) in the financial closing of the 145 MWac Cirata floating project, one of the largest solar floating plants in Southeast Asia, which will contribute to the country’s renewable energy use. Other recent and ongoing matters in the firm’s portfolio include waste management, carbon sequestration, and forest conservation and restoration projects.

After starting to implement internal environmentally friendly policies in 2018, the firm launched a more formal UMBRA Green Initiative in 2019, which includes an office policy framework with the objective of reducing waste production and power usage. To celebrate the firm’s fourth anniversary with a cause,  it issued a series of media campaigns and legal insights on waste management in Indonesia alongside engaging in discussions around the topic with the relevant stakeholders, as well as the team taking part in Waste4Change’s Send Your Waste Program. The firm has also published various articles and has been involved in events discussing sustainability issues including waste management, carbon trading, and sustainable finance.
