Green Guide Profile: Norton Rose Fulbright

Besides a highly active sustainable finance practice, Norton Rose Fulbright has also seen work in connection with renewable energy projects and in the electric vehicle space, among other areas.

Singapore-based banking and project finance expert Nick Merritt, who has a particular focus on sustainability and sustainable finance, recently advised Japan International Cooperation Agency on a JPY 10bn green loan facility for Tata Cleantech Capital promoting green development in India. In another highlight, he is assisting Hyundai with the development of its new EV manufacturing facility in Singapore. The Singapore team also advised a consortium of financial institutions on the $163m financing to Azure Power for a 300MW PV project in Rajasthan.

Merritt, who co-heads the firm’s sustainability practice across Europe, Middle East and Asia, also co-hosts the firm’s Sustainability Asia video series, discussing market developments in the region. The firm’s thought leadership is collated via its sustainability and ESG hub, its energy transition hub, and its ESG insights portal.

Internal efforts to integrate sustainability into the firm’s operations include a sustainability management plan, the establishment of a sustainability committee, and the development of science-based targets to achieve net zero. To that end, the firm has partnered with Greenstone, a sustainability software solutions company, to track its carbon footprint and has gathered such data from 22 of its office worldwide.
