Green Guide Profile: Hogan Lovells

Hogan Lovells US LLP seeks to integrate its commitment to ESG across its whole legal offering, providing pro bono advice to clients and internal training to its lawyers through HL BaSE, its business and sustainable enterprise program founded a decade ago, as well as consulting services via its ESG 360° Assessment tool. The firm also provides free online coverage of ESG regulations through its ESG Global Vision service, as well as training information through its ESG Academy.

Washington DC-based global energy practice head Amy Roma recently advised Berkshire Hathaway on a first of its kind licensing for the $1bn+ conversion of a retired Wyoming coal plant with a TerraPower nuclear reactor, supporting the local economy and community. The firm also assisted Candela Renewables with the development of solar energy projects with a total output of 3.2GW and energy storage projects totaling 2GW as part of a joint venture with Naturgy. Other recent work highlights include advising Nissan on GHG emission regulations, and Colgate on the issuance of its first €500m sustainability bond. Particularly noteworthy is also the team’s niche expertise in indigenous environmental rights.

A signatory to the UN Global compact, UN Business Ambition for 1.5°C, and Race to Zero, the firm makes submissions to CDP, EcoVadis and the Science Based Targets initiative, and is seeking to achieve net zero by 2030, offsetting emissions in the interim. Through its sustainable office design principles, 23 of the firm’s offices worldwide have attained a sustainability certification. The Washington DC office is powered by renewable energy and the firm seeks to achieve this, alongside ISO 14001 accreditation, firmwide. Offices in the US operate environmental sustainability committees on a local basis, supplementing the work of the global ESG Board.
