Energy industry group co-chairs, San Francisco-based Kevin Poloncarz and DC-based senior counsel Gary Guzy are Center for Applied Environmental Law and Policy board members. Poloncarz is also co-chair of the firm’s environmental and energy as well as ESG practice groups and sits on the boards of NYU School of Law’s State Energy & Environmental Impact Center and the Environmental Law Institute; he is additionally a fellow and regent of the American College of Environmental Lawyers. Guzy was White House CEQ Deputy Director and GC, and EPA GC and Counselor to the Administrator.

Guzy is representing Telsa in its challenging of fuel efficiency standard violation penalty relaxations, while Poloncarz acted for a coalition of utilities in West Virginia v. EPA, supporting the vacation of the Clean Power Plan’s repeal, and is advising major financial institutions on global carbon markets. Together they provide pro bono advice to The Nature Conservancy on its partnership with Amazon regarding a $100m investment into nature-based climate solutions. They are also representing a coalition of utilities and former Cabinet members challenging the withdrawal of California’s waiver to implement its own emissions standards.

Other DC-based key figures include: senior counsel Carol Browner, chair of the League of Conservation Voters’ board and a former EPA Administrator and White House ‘climate czar’; Kyoto protocol US delegation leader, senior counsel Stuart Eizenstat; and energy industry group co-chair Andy Jack, pro bono GC to the American Council on Renewable Energy and member of the WRI Global Leadership Council.
