Green Guide Profile: Baker McKenzie

Baker McKenzie has been a member of the UN Global Compact since 2015 placing sustainability at the core of its strategy. In 2019 it announced its carbon emissions reduction plan which includes an overall aim to reduce energy consumption by 92% by 2030. The firm also launched its B-Green Program in 2016 designed to guide a green transition in all its offices around the world.  

The firm’s US offices have assisted clients in a range of industries with their journeys towards sustainability including Estee Lauder, Zoetis Inc, Brunswick Corporation, and Mercury Marine Corporation.  

New York-based Clyde E. “Skip” Rankin, III heads up the firm’s projects practice in North America bringing over 30 years of experience in renewables to the team. Rankin led the team advising Philips Electronics North America Corporation on an off-site renewable energy virtual power agreement with a wind energy project, Los Mirasoles Wind Farm, which has a capacity of approximately 100 MW.  

David Hackett in the Chicago office leads the firm’s ESG group for North America and regularly works with sellers assisting various clients with acquiring and selling of carbon credits. Hackett has been central to the firm’s engagement with leading market standard setters including acting as counsel on a pro bono basis for the UN Global Compact US board and the Prince of Wales Charitable Foundation.
