Green Guide Profile: Angulo Martínez & Abogados

Colombia

Colombia-based law firm Angulo Martínez & Abogados assists clients across the spectrum of sustainability with a strong focus on renewable energy and efficiency projects which make up the bulk of the portfolio. The electricity market is a particular area of specialisation, and in 2022 the firm also expanded its practice to cover water and sustainability matters.

A key client is Trina Solar regarding several renewable energy projects, such as the development of 300 MW solar projects, including assisting negotiation with local indigenous communities. The team also assisted the client and Solargreen in a complex agreement for shared use of land to develop a solar PV project over the surface of an operative natural gas field.

Founding partner of the firm, Juan José Angulo, is committed to tackling climate change challenges from a regulatory perspective in Colombia. He sits on the board for Ser Colombia and is Director of Energy Transition for think tank Al Centro. The firm successfully represented Ser Colombia before the Constitutional Court of Colombia in defence of the constitutionality of the clean energy 10% quota.

In order to reduce its carbon footprint, the firm is implementing a remote-as-possible as well as daylight work policy: When coming into the office, employees are offered incentives to start earlier to minimise night shifts which require more energy use in the buildings.
