Position

Nigel Adams joined the firm as Head of Dispute Resolution in February 2022.

He is a versatile lawyer who combines a wide raging commercial litigation practice with media-focused work. Throughout his career, Nigel has acted for a variety of individuals and businesses on areas such as contract and shareholder disputes, professional negligence, insolvency and agency matters. With regard to his media practice, Nigel has been involved in everything from defamation claims and other reputation management work, to royalty disputes, and intellectual property issues.

Other areas of expertise:

  • Classic cars: Nigel has developed a specialist practice regarding title to and provenance of classic cars. He has acted in cases involving iconic vehicles such as DB range Aston Martins, a Bugatti Type 35 and a pre-war Mercedes-Benz racing car.
  • Civil Fraud: victims of fraud regularly instruct Nigel for advice on bringing claims to remedy their loss.
  • International Arbitration: beyond his traditional court-centred litigation work, Nigel has also become expert in the various arbitration jurisdictions commonly used in the context of commercial agreements.

Nigel prides himself on working hand-in-hand with his clients to guide them through the dispute resolution process, working towards their ultimate goal as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.

Notable cases

Across his career, Nigel has been involved in many high-profile cases, including:

  • Quinton v Peirce – a novel case in the High Court acting for successful Defendants to a claim not brought in defamation, but for injurious falsehood and breach of the Data Protection Act 1998.
  • Miles v ITV Networks – a reported case in which summary judgment was obtained by the client against the Claimant who had alleged infringement of a format for a children’s television programme.
  • Singer v Beckett (also known as Re Continental Assurance) – a leading High Court decision on director duties in which Nigel succeeded in having the case against his client dismissed.
