Career
Professor Édis Milaré is a former public prosecutor, having founded the Environmental Law Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the Public Attorney’s Office of São Paulo State. Professor’s work in the Public Attorney’s Office protecting the environment was not only pioneering in the field, but actually led the way in developing the body of Brazilian environmental law. Therefore, he contributed to the section of Brazil’s 1988 Constitution that refers to the environmental issue and prepared the national environment code by the time he was Secretary of State for the Environment in São Paulo, from 1992 to 1995. Former President of the Fundação para a Conservação e a Produção Florestal of the State of São Paulo from 1995 until 1997.

Professor Milaré have a Doctoral in Diffuse and Collective Rights, concentration in Environmental Law by Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo; a Master’s Degree in Diffuse and Collective Rights, concentration in Environmental Law by Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo and graduated in Law by Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in 1968.
