Career
Constantinos Ragas has been a member of Fasken’s Corporate/Commercial group since 2010, after joining the firm in 2008 as a student. He focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, information technology, and start-ups. Costa advises clients on activities involved in the purchase and sale of shares and assets in Canada and internationally, including complex multi-jurisdictional cross-border transactions.
In addition to his experience in mergers and acquisitions in the industrial, manufacturing, media, and financial services sectors, Costa advises Canadian banks and credit unions on the acquisition and sale of card portfolios.
Costa has also represented institutional clients in their private equity investments in Canadian and international markets. He has advised clients from the public and private sectors on energy, oil and gas, and transportation joint venture projects.
Before entering law, Costa worked in social media, web site design and programming, and has a keen understanding of the practical commercial and legal problems faced by small businesses and startups in the information technology sector. He is a member of Fasken’s Startup Program, created in 2012, and has considerable experience in financing start-ups and shareholder agreements. He regularly advises clients on common issues that arise during the preliminary steps in creating a business.

The practice group at Fasken is well-placed to advise on large systems implementations and outsourcing arrangements, Internet business models, e-commerce, consumer protection and data protection matters, as well as M&A transactions involving the tech sector. Additional areas of expertise include developing cloud and outsourcing strategies and creating governance, IT security and privacy policies. Leadership is shared between Toronto-based Andrew Alleyne (tech-related contracting), Andrew Nunes (TMT practice co-lead) and Will Shaw; Shahrooz Nabavi from Vancouver (tech transactions); and Constantinos Ragas from Montreal (M&A and private equity transactions).
