Matthew is an employment Partner in our Education employment team.

He advises a wide range of Further Education Colleges, Higher Education institutions and Academies on employment and governance issues.

Matthew has considerable experience in providing advice on a full range of employment law issues, including: advising on strategic issues affecting institutions (collective redundancies, reorganisations, mergers and joint ventures); handling complex multi-day Employment Tribunal claims for a number of educational institutions; dealing with complex issues in relation to the Statutes and Ordinances of Universities and the Instrument and Articles of Government of Further Education Colleges; as well as general day to day advisory work.

Matthew is a regular trainer as part of the Eversheds training programme and participates in the delivery of bespoke training to a large number of clients.

Matthew is a member of the Employment Lawyers’ Association.

The education practice at Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP assists higher education and further education clients, schools, academies and private institutions in a wide range of issues, such as employment, student matters, charity law, litigation and dispute management or real estate, corporate and commercial, intellectual property, and health and safety issues, as well as constitutional and regulatory matters. The group is headed by Nicola Bennison and chaired by Diane Gilhooley. Glynne Stanfield has vast experience in corporate and commercial law and is the key contact for international education and corporate governance. Steven O’Reilly is well-versed in charity law. Chris Mordue provides employment advice to universities and industrial relations issues. Ben Woods provides education clients with governance and employment advice, while Alison Oldfield specialises in litigation and dispute management.
