Career

Andrew’s diverse legal and commercial experience (including running his own businesses and co-developing his own project) uniquely position Andrew as an innovative legal adviser with a broad set of project development and financing skills.

A partner in the firm’s global projects team and a member of the energy, infrastructure and natural resources sector groups, Andrew specialises in advising on significant EMEA infrastructure, energy, mining and project finance transactions. He has also developed an enviable reputation in the field of project development and project finance.

Andrew has practised as a partner at two major firms – latterly based in the Middle East where he earned a reputation advising on significant EMEA infrastructure, energy, mining and project finance transactions. Andrew returned to the UK in 2013, studied for arbitration exams and set up his own consultancy. Some examples of Andrew’s extensive experience include:

  • Utilities: £4.2 billion Thames Tideway Tunnel project – various roles for Thames Water (including head of commercial) on this major UK procurement which reached financial close in late summer 2015.
  • Projects: Developing a major HVDC subsea interconnector – part of the in-house team developing a major HVDC subsea interconnector between the UK and continental Europe.
  • Power: US$1.5 billion Shuweihat S3 power project – led team for Sumitomo-KEPCO consortium’s successful bid for US$1.5 billion Shuweihat S3 power project: negotiating commercial, shareholder and finance contracts (including interest rate and currency hedging arrangements) and leading face-to-face negotiations with Abu Dhabi government and others in London, Tokyo and Korea.
  • PPP: Consulting to Local Partnerships on the renegotiation of various police and local authority deals PFI deals on behalf of the public sector.
  • Metals and mining: Advised a global steel giant on restructuring of its steel project in Saudi Arabia and advised the hedge fund financiers of the first project financing to reach financial close in Yemen.
  • Africa: Advised on power generation and telecom projects in South Africa and on a proposed multi-sourced financing of a mining project in Congo-Brazzaville.
  • Project Financing: Advised on many project financings including some of the earliest multi-sourced petrochemical financings in the Middle East and the earliest power and desalination projects in the Gulf
  • Solar: Advised a Japanese developer on the structuring and drafting of power purchase arrangements for an integrated combined cycle gas and thermal solar project in Kuwait and advised the project companies on the financing of a major solar financing in Spain.
