Career

Joy Lene graduated from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom in July 2014.  She is a member of The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn and was called to the Bar of England and Wales.  In September 2016, she was called to the Peninsular Malaysian Bar.

As one of the partners in the Intellectual Property Practice Group, Joy principally engages in trademark protection, advising on brand clearance, branding and re-branding strategies, filing and enforcement, portfolio management, prosecution and opposition proceedings and preparing IP policies, amongst others.  She manages international and local trademark portfolios for both local and multinational clients across various industries, including fast-moving consumer goods, fashion, retail, cosmetics, hospitality, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, education, engineering, oil and gas, banking and finance, real estate, media and entertainment, technology, electronics and telecommunications.

Other than trademarks, Joy advises on copyright-related matters, manages industrial designs portfolios and is developing her expertise in the area of franchising. She is a registered trademark agent in Malaysia and has been recognised as a Rising Star by the publication IP Stars in the 2023 and 2024 editions.
