Career

Carlos Ramos Miranda is a partner in our Mexico City office, advising clients on general M&A, corporate, energy, and insurance matters. Carlos has in-depth experience in the energy industry, where he has advised a wide array of clients in the oil, gas, and power sectors. Carlos advised Pemex on several matters concerning the 2013 energy reform and implementation. He has also advised various clients in the water infrastructure sector. Carlos also has extensive experience in M&A transactions, and has participated in various acquisitions in diverse sectors, including the insurance sector advising global, international and local clients.  Carlos advises multiple insurance and reinsurance companies in day to day regulatory, corporate and compliance issues.  His negotiation skills allow him to close on challenging projects with win-win solutions for the parties involved. Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Carlos was a partner at Barrera, Siqueiros y Torres Landa, where he concentrated on M&A, corporate, insurance, and energy law.

Mr. Ramos received his law degree from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM, 1989-1994). He completed his master’s of law degree at Georgetown University Law School (2004-2005). He holds postgraduate diplomas in executive international finance from Georgetown University Business School (1995) and executive finances from Universidad Iberoamericana (2004).

Hogan Lovells US LLP has a strong team of Houston-based professionals that have a substantial focus on Latin America oil and gas transactions and projects. While much of the office’s focus is on oil and gas, especially in Mexico, it does have a strong presence in other industries such as insurance, along with other jurisdictions, including Ecuador. Admitted to practice in Venezuela and a foreign legal consultant in Texas, Bruno Ciuffetelli is hugely experienced in oil and gas, and also has a background in representing sovereigns and quasi-sovereigns, especially the Republic of Ecuador and other Ecuadorian sovereign entities. Additionally, Ciuffetelli has expertise in joint ventures, construction contracts, license and technology transfers, and project finance, and is also noted for Latin America financings involving Chinese lenders and sovereign debt restructurings. Carlos Ramos Miranda splits his time between Houston and Mexico City, notably advising clients in multiple energy and infrastructure matters, including oil-and-gas contracts and regulatory matters, along with insurance M&A and regulatory work; among numerous Latin America transactions, he led the team that advised Petrobal on the sale of a 50% interest in an oil-and-gas exploration and extraction contract with the Mexican government. Jorge Diaz-Silveira is managing partner of the Miami office and leads the Americas infrastructure, energy, resources, and projects group; he continues to lead many of the firm’s top matters in Latin America. Houston based Bruno Ciuffetelli is a senior name in the oil-and-gas sector, often advising sovereigns and quasi-sovereigns in the region. A long-standing presence in the sector, Hogan Lovells‘ Mexico City office fields an insurance practice that has notable expertise in the formation and acquisition of insurance, surety and brokerage companies. Indeed, securing authorisations to acquire and/or form insurance and bonding companies is a particular strength. The team is led by Carlos Ramos Miranda, whose broad practice includes regular assistance to insurance and reinsurance companies and brokers, regulatory issues, transactions and litigation in the sector. Omar Guerrero focuses on the representation of insurance companies in commercial litigation and insolvency proceedings, as does Monterrey-based partner Alejandro García González.
