Position

Partner: Alan is a partner in the Commercial team specialising in the drafting and negotiation of commercial and technology contracts and the development, protection and exploitation of intellectual property assets.

He is Deputy Co-Head of the firm’s Media & Entertainment group and Co-founder of our network for decision makers of luxury, lifestyle and premium brand businesses – The Collective by Lewis Silkin. He advises clients across a broad range of sectors, but in particular those in media, technology, retail, entertainment, fashion, luxury and advertising.

Alan advises on a wide range of commercial and technology matters. Contract drafting and negotiation, and IP protection and exploitation, are at the core of his practice.

Alan regularly assists clients with:

  • the negotiation of commercial arrangements including agency and distribution deals, collaborations and partnerships, outsourcing, complex services arrangements, terms of sale and supply, franchise and concession agreements, and e-commerce and goods to market solutions
  • complex technology contracts from software, platform and technology development and licensing to systems integration, managed services and cloud based solutions
  • IP and rights heavy deals such as sponsorship, brand partnerships, acquisitions, merchandising and licensing, endorsement and talent arrangements, and content creation
  • strategic commercial business decisions
  • consumer and data protection law compliance

Lewis Silkin handles both theatre and publishing matters across a number of sub-sectors, from live music and theatre, to print, digital, broadcast and social media. On the publishing front, the firm handles a mix of commercial, IP, data protection and defamation matters, while on the performing arts side, its advice centres on live events, such as fashion shows and festivals, and related contractual mandates, including agreements with talent and sponsors, and disputes. IP expert Jeremy Summers handles both contentious and non-contentious matters concerning productions and major live events, while deputy head of the media and entertainment practice Alan Hunt specialises in commercial and IP matters for the entertainment, fashion and media sectors. Lewis Silkin‘s social media and digital content practice provides commercial, IP, regulatory and employment advice to major global streamers and social media platforms. The group is also well placed to advise talent – both influencers and creators – on key contractual and regulatory issues. Music expert Cliff Fluet and commercial and IP specialist Alan Hunt jointly lead the wider group. Brinsley Dresden oversees the advertising and marketing team alongside Geraint Lloyd-Taylor, who also heads up the regulatory group.
