The future of the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme
The Home Office has amended the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme to allow MBA graduates from the top 50 business schools in the world to automatically qualify without meeting any further criteria.
The 50 relevant institutions were revealed in the pre-budget report in December 2004 (see box below).
Points requirements
MBA graduates who completed their degrees in December 2004 or later from the relevant institutions are treated as meeting the points requirements for the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme, regardless of previous work experience, earnings or other qualifying factors.
MBA graduates who completed their degrees before December 2004 or graduated from a university not on the list will score 25 points for the qualification, but will need to score a further 40 points based on work experience, achievement and earnings.
The 50 relevant institutions will be updated annually.
