Collaboration between the European Patent Office and Google will make patent searching easier, quicker and more efficient.

In future, it will be possible to click into the EPO’s website and use Google Translate to translate European patent specifications. Google Translate will be able to translate from English, German and French – the official languages of the EPO – into all European languages as well as Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian.
In the EPO’s opinion, this new service will make patent searching much easier for businesses, research scientists and inventors and will contribute to improving the competitiveness of European businesses.
The new service will be free of charge and available directly from the EPO website, which provides access to millions of patent specifications. Google and the EPO expect the new translation service to be ready for use in 2014.
