The shorter a word mark, the easier for competitors to lean on the mark without infringing. This can be seen from a case from the Copenhagen Maritime and Commercial Court.

 

It may be a good idea to market products under short word marks because they are easy to recognise and therefore effective. But short word marks are more likely to lack distinctiveness.
