Diversity/Community

Our commitment to equality and diversity

Shulmans has a clear and comprehensive Equality Policy, which is underpinned by the principles of non-discrimination and equality of opportunity. We are committed to eliminating discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity for all colleagues and job applicants. We aim to create an inclusive culture: a working environment in which all individuals are able to make the best use of their skills and abilities, free from discrimination or harassment, and in which all decisions are based on performance, merit and aptitude.

All colleagues will be treated with dignity and respect; they in turn have a duty to act in accordance with the firm’s Equality policy and to treat other colleagues with dignity at all times, and not to discriminate against or harass other members of staff, regardless of their status. These principles also apply to the way in which colleagues treat visitors, clients, customers, suppliers and former staff members.

Our commitment to our colleagues

One of our ‘Big Goals’ is to create a great place to work. We strive to provide our colleagues with good working conditions and rewards which encourage them and reflect the value of their work.

We offer fantastic career prospects through our career progression scheme, Forward with Shulmans. This framework, which has evolved over many years, offers a clear and transparent way for colleagues to achieve their career goals.

We are also committed to our colleagues’ wellbeing with benefits including a healthcare cash plan and employee assistance package as well as community-based activities at our base at Wellington Place which include a choir, book club, running club and free cycle hire.

Our commitment to charity

Shulmans is a UK top 200 corporate law firm. We have enjoyed sustained growth, but we do not do this at any cost. We firmly believe in giving something back. Although Shulmans is a firm with a national and international reach, we are strongly committed to supporting the Yorkshire region, its businesses and its people. Our colleagues are actively involved in charitable work. We have a CSR committee which has representatives from all over the business who meet on a monthly basis to organise activities for everyone to get involved in.

We select one charity each year by consulting our colleagues. We then embark upon a calendar of charitable events to support them. We have also developed partnerships with a range of local organisations, to the benefit of the community, examples of which are below:

  • The Shine project, Leeds
  • The Big Change Project, Leeds
  • Social Mobility Foundation
  • The Leeds Community Foundation 100 Club

Our commitment to the environment

Based in the heart of the Leeds Business District the Shulmans offices were created with their environmental impact in mind.

  • Our building is BREEAM Certified
  • We offer our colleagues support with Travel to Work Schemes
  • None of the waste created in our office is sent directly to landfill
