Most of Richard’s work across those practice areas is in the Healthcare and Social Care sectors.
Richard has extensive experience of:
– Inquests, particularly concerning medical/surgical treatment, psychiatric treatment, social care, deprivation of liberty, and multi-agency deaths.
– The full range of clinical negligence cases, especially delayed diagnosis of cancer, and cases raising issue of consent and capacity.
– Litigation around psychiatric treatment (inquests and negligence claims), in particular regarding risk assessment, ground leave, s.17 leave, etc.
– Court of protection (Health and Welfare) cases, including medical treatment, Deprivation of Liberty and a range of s.16 applications.
– Inherent Jurisdiction applications in relation to vulnerable children and adults.
– Deprivation of liberty of children and young adults, often advising hospital trusts in relation to IJ/family proceedings.
– Secondary victim claims.
– Claims against local authorities in relation to social care, failure to remove, breach of ECHR, etc.

Stephanie Hall is acting for the claimant in Redrow Homes v Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, a judicial review of the Secretary of State’s decision to issue disbursements of approximately £30m to pay for works at a Birmingham-based high-rise building from the Building Safety Fund, which was set up following the Grenfell Tower fire to pay for works to buildings with a fire risk.
