Position

Cliff Cone is a Partner in the New York office of Clifford Chance and the co-head of the U.S. Funds and Investment Management Practice. He focuses primarily on the investment management sector and has a broad base of expertise advising alternative investment managers, registered investment companies, BDCs, specialty finance companies and boards of directors with respect to all aspects of the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the Investment Advisers Act of 1940.

Cliff has extensive experience with the organization and ongoing representation of U.S. registered open-end and closed-end investment companies, hedge funds, private equity funds, commodity funds, exchange-traded funds and business development companies. Cliff also regularly consults with investment advisers on registration and ongoing compliance and disclosure issues, including compliance with the rules of the New York Stock Exchange and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc. (FINRA). Cliff served on the Committee on Investment Regulation of the New York City Bar.

As well as GP-led restructurings and secondary transactions, and a strength in ongoing fundraises for credit funds and large asset managers, Clifford Chance has a strong real estate funds offering. This, in addition to the group’s strength in credit funds matters, such as acquisitions and strategic advice, leaves the group well placed to offer real estate debt funds advice, not only domestically but also globally due to a strong cross-border offering. Secondaries transactions are another area of strength for the firm. Michael Sabin and Clifford Cone head up the team and are also key team members who are well supported by Daniel Drabkin, who is key for the group’s secondary transactions mandates.
