(Next Generation Partners) (Firms to watch)Nader, Hayaux y Goebel, SC‘s sustainable transition working group is not an environmental practice as traditionally conceived but is instead focused on advice and consultancy (for clients such as BBVA, HSBC and Grupo FRISA) related to the World Economic Forum’s Climate Governance Initiative (CGI), along with associated matters such as green finance, sustainable development goals, the issuance of BioCredits and bonds, and environmentally conscious governance strategies, among others; name partner Yves Hayaux-du-Tilly is the key contact and has led the firm’s efforts to establish not-for-profit entity Chapter Zero Mexico – effectively the local chapter of the CGI. The firm announced the hire of Marcela Ánimas as a partner – effective as of January 2024; arriving from her own boutique, Ánimas’ incorporation should radically broaden the practice’s capabilities across the environmental impact, risk and compliance segments, along with water law.
Mexico > Energy and natural resources
Electricity and water matters are the standout strengths of the energy and natural resources department at Nader, Hayaux y Goebel, SC, one of the practices equipped to handle the broadest range of projects in the energy and natural resources. Recent work has included prominent exits from the Mexican electricity market, renewable energy acquisitions and financing natural gas supply projects. The team is also at the forefront of the water sector and the growing waste-to-energy projects niche, with co-head of the practice Vanessa Franyutti, and PPP expert Alejandro Rojas being the key partner contacts on such matters. Franyutti shares leadership of the wider energy and natural resources department with Javier Arreola, who is well versed in matters across the electricity sector, including renewables. Young partner Santiago Medina comes with strong recommendation from clients and is developing a notable practice in electricity PPP projects, handling structuring, bidding, acquisition, restructuring and financings. At associate level, Ana María Alpizar and Fernando Castillo are both experienced practitioners of note. The January 2024 hire of environmental law expert Marcela Ánimas from the now defunct Woods Ánimas considerably bolsters the firm’s offering in that area.
