Sige is a nationally recognized patent litigator and counselor who serves as Chair of the firm’s Life Sciences Litigation Practice and Co-chair of our Patent Litigation Practice. He has an educational background and extensive industry experience in molecular and cell biology and biophysical chemistry. He has successfully litigated numerous cases involving biologic drug patents, other life sciences innovations, and the Hatch-Waxman Act. His practice also encompasses developing and executing market exclusivity and freedom to operate strategies for a wide range of leading life sciences companies and handling inter partes patent office actions.

Sige frequently represents clients before trial and appellate courts nationwide, including the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, as well as arbitration panels. He leverages more than 20 years of industry experience, including several as senior patent litigation counsel for one of the world’s largest biotechnology companies, to oversee all phases of disputes and deploy effective case strategies.

Clients also regularly call on Sige to design and implement patent office, FDA regulatory, and other strategies aimed at protecting patent rights and securing market exclusivity for leading biologics, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies. A significant portion of this work centers on inter partes matters at the US Patent and Trademark Office, including oppositions. He also provides strategic patent counseling, including addressing product life cycle management and patent portfolio development issues, and prepares third-party patent landscape analyses. Sige has experience with patent matters involving a broad spectrum of technologies, including therapeutic proteins such as monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, nucleic acids, gene therapy, stem cells, expression systems, screening methodologies, purification processes, DNA microarrays, small molecules, and polymer chemistry.

A recognized thought leader, Sige has frequently spoken and written about issues relating to biosimilars and generic drugs. Prior to joining Mintz, he was the chair of the Life Sciences Patent Practice of an international law firm. Earlier, he was a partner at another Am Law 100 law firm.
