Position
Dominic Griffiths heads Mayer Brown’s banking and finance group in London, representing financial institutions and companies across a broad spectrum of domestic and international financing transactions. His practice is particularly focused on commercial and investment bank asset-based lending and structured finance. Dominic has in-depth experience with regard to European and Trans-Atlantic cross-border secured loans and trade receivables financings. He also represents clients engaged in the structuring and execution of finance transactions in Italy. The group Dominic leads in London includes lawyers focussing on debt capital markets, derivatives, structured finance, asset based lending, asset finance, project and commodities finance, acquisition finance, restructuring, corporate and real estate finance. The team frequently works with the London office’s substantial corporate, real estate, insurance and litigation groups as well as with lawyers in the firm’s extensive network of offices across the Americas, Europe and Asia.

(Leading partners)Generally eschewing the more commoditised domestic lower-to-mid market mandates in favour of complex highly structured mandates, Mayer Brown International LLP is particularly well-suited to advising on cross-border mandates, often involving complex inter-creditor arrangements. Many of these are US-originated deals, where the UK team, which is headed by Alex Dell, often works alongside lawyers in Chicago and New York, or handles European deals for US-owned lenders. The vastly experienced Simon Fisher is often at the forefront of these large syndicated cross-border and transatlantic transactions, and he excels at working in a collegial way with colleagues in Europe and the US. Ravi Amin is also ‘superb’ at handling receivables financing and ABL transactions, as is Dominic Griffiths, whose expertise on ABL and more broadly across trade receivables and structured finance is reflective of the firm’s nimble and agile approach to work in the space. The arrival of dual UK and US-qualified Victoria Thompson, who ‘knows her way around market documents in great depth’, in September 2023 from Morgan, Lewis & Bockius UK LLP bolsters the team’s offering in the space for banks and private credit providers, both on new money deals and restructurings.
London > Finance > Securitisation
(Leading partners)Clients of Mayer Brown International LLP praise the ‘high quality of the team, its deep domain expertise, and its capacity to meet tight deadlines‘. Well-versed in securitisation across the full range of asset classes, the firm is notably involved in deals involving new asset classes, such as its key role acting for banks in the €3bn financing of an acquisition of a portfolio of buy-now-pay-later receivables. London managing partner Dominic Griffiths remains closely involved in transactional matters, and he co-leads the practice with David O’Connor, who is highly regarded for advising global investment banks on RMBS and CMBS transactions. Ronan Mellon, who is ‘very constructive in dealing with complex issues‘, is a key adviser on CLOs, which are also part of Neil Hamilton‘s broad practice alongside RMBS and CMBS. Banking and finance partner Charles Malpass focuses on real estate and NPL deals.
