Position

Brian Benczkowski is a partner in Kirkland’s Washington, D.C., office. He is a member of the Firm’s Government, Regulatory & Internal Investigations Practice Group. Brian has deep and diverse government enforcement and investigations experience, bolstered by his service in multiple leadership positions at the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and on Capitol Hill. He recently returned to the firm after serving for two years as the Senate-confirmed Assistant Attorney General for DOJ’s Criminal Division, his sixth senior management position at the Justice Department.

Drawing on the significant strengths of its government, regulatory and internal investigations and litigation groups Kirkland & Ellis LLP state attorneys general practitioners are well placed to handle multistate AG investigations and litigations, as well as counselling clients on regulatory actions of AGs and enforcers. The team handles matters pertaining to consumer protection, the false claims act, data privacy and ESG matters and are additionally prominent in antitrust investigations. The practice houses former Illinois attorney general and Chicago-based partner Lisa Madigan who focuses on state and federal investigations related to consumer protection, data security, privacy and healthcare among others. In Washington D.C. are Reginald Brown, who covers crisis avoidance, mitigation matters and investigations and Brian Benczkowski, who advises corporations in enforcement and investigations by state and federal government. Olivia Adendorff splits time between Dallas and Washington D.C. and is active in consumer protection, data privacy and antitrust compliance and investigative matters, and Raya Treiser in Washington D.C. advises private equity firms and energy companies in crisis situations and AG inquiries.
