Finance > Corporate restructuring & insolvency Tier 1

'The gold standard for corporate restructuring and insolvency', Kirkland & Ellis International LLP provides 'commercial and cutting-edge thinking' to deliver optimal results for clients, whether it be for funds as creditors/investors or on the debtor front. This innovative mindset is demonstrated both in terms of complex financial restructuring mandates -  where clients benefit from a tremendous knowledge of a variety of financial products, including New York law governed high yield debt - as well as the use of insolvency tools including Company Voluntary Arrangements (CVAs) and the newly configured Restructuring Plan. 'A master tactician, who is laser focused on delivering results', Kon Asimacopoulos 'leads from the front' and sets the tone for the team, given his insatiable appetite for work and relevance in the market. The 'technically excellent' Elaine Nolan is one of many in the team with 'deep experience of CVAs', which she implements to good effect for clients in the retail sector. A 'superbly commercial lawyer', Sean Lacey is adept at handling mandates for investment funds, financial sponsors and corporates throughout the capital structure, in the context of restructurings, special situations investing, credit-led opportunities and specialised lending transactions. Finance > High yield Tier 1

Kirkland & Ellis International LLP is ‘exceptionally good as far as bonds are concerned – efficient, responsive, professional and reliable‘, remarks one client, adding that ‘there are probably cheaper options out there but the firm is worth the money‘. Widely regarded as a leading sponsor-side firm, it is frequently involved on behalf of initial purchasers in high-value, cross-border deals. William Burke leads the practice and he has ‘the ability to seemingly be in five different places at once and always in a position to provide thoughtful feedback‘. Matthew Merkle consistently represents private equity sponsors and issuers in high-yield debt offerings in connection with leveraged buyouts, initial public offerings and other complex financings. Cedric Van den Borren ‘delivers best-in-class service‘. He advised Iliad Holding on a €3bn equivalent four-tranche issuance of US-dollar and Euro-denominated senior secured notes. Up-and-coming partners Morgan Hill and Tim Volkheimer (who is ‘a cut above the rest‘) also play pivotal roles in the practice.

Testimonials

‘The differentiation of Kirkland is access to partners. At many other firms it is actually quite hard to get to speak with partners. Their knowledge of the market is a good as any other firm and far better than most. When we speak to them it they feel like friends and partners totally committed to our success, not just our legal advisors.’

‘Andy Shore is our day to day lead, and he is a fantastic resource – always available, always on top of things and commercial when it matters. He is also great at coordinating across different teams and making sure we have clear and consistent communication channels.’

‘The Kirkland team advise us on our private credit fundraising activities. They have a high level of expertise in this space and have played a key role in helping us to develop this relatively new area of our business. The team bring a good balance of senior level advice on complex issues and strong execution from more junior lawyers.’

‘Anand Damodaran is a highly experienced and knowledgable partner with an excellent commercial understanding of the private credit space and extremely strong technical skills which have been very valuable as we have developed this part of our business.’
