Career

Paul Stein is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Calgary office. He practises in the area of commercial litigation with an emphasis on complex fire, oilfield, directors and officers, professional liability, environmental, product liability, employment liability, aviation, property and industrial claims, coverage litigation, class actions, construction, commercial and shareholder disputes. With over 35 years at the bar, he is deeply committed to adding value to clients’ matters by providing insightful analysis of issues, timely advice and obtaining favourable results in the most efficient manner possible.

Paul has significant trial experience and has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, various administrative tribunals and conducted matters in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. He has also acted as monitoring and instructing counsel regarding commercial and coverage litigation in the United States. He has extensive experience as counsel in mediations and arbitrations.

Paul was the leader of the firm’s Insurance and Professional Liability Group from 2007 to 2010.

Paul was appointed Queen’s Counsel (now “King’s Counsel”) in 2014 and has been consistently recognized by Lexpert and Best Lawyers in Canada.
