Jasleen Chahal is an associate lawyer and registered trademark agent in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group.
Her practice focuses on trademark prosecution, intellectual property litigation, and strategic global trademark portfolio management. Jasleen has significant contract drafting experience, which includes research and licensing agreements. She also provides transactional intellectual property support on deals for the firm’s corporate M&A practice.
Jasleen leverages a broad range of experience in all areas of trademark law, and advises clients on contentious and non-contentious trademark matters, including the acquisition, protection, and enforcement of trademark rights in Canada and internationally. Her trademark practice focuses on clearance, prosecution, portfolio management, infringement matters, and opposition and expungement proceedings.
Clients of varying sizes and industries retain Jasleen for her ability to provide tailored solutions that match the specific business needs of the matter at hand. Her experience includes acting as a senior counsel for a major Canadian bank as part of the bank’s intellectual property team. In that role, she assisted with a wide range of intellectual property needs.
Her work has earned her recognition as a “Rising Star – Intellectual Property” from The Legal 500 Canada’s 2023 edition. She was also included in the 2024 edition of “Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Canada” for her work in intellectual property law.
Jasleen earned her JD from Western University, where she completed the specialized areas of concentration in intellectual property and information technology law. In addition to her studies, Jasleen volunteered as an intellectual property caseworker at Western University’s Community Legal Services, where she provided legal services and advice to libraries and small businesses ventures.
Prior to attending law school, Jasleen completed an MSc in Physiology at the University of Toronto. Her graduate studies focused on diabetes research, and culminated with a peer-reviewed publication in Pancreas. Jasleen obtained her an honours BSc in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo.
