Position
Tom is a Partner in our Leeds office and acts for clients in relation to regulatory, disciplinary, criminal investigations/prosecutions and inquests.
Tom has been representing police officers for more than 14 years. Predominantly instructed by the Police Federation of England and Wales, he has a reputation for acting for clients in high profile cases including allegations of gross negligence manslaughter, serious sexual offences and misconduct in public office, as well as matters arising from the Hillsborough stadium disaster.
Tom has extensive experience in advising officers at the police station as well as in relation to criminal prosecutions, both in the Magistrates and Crown Courts and in the Court of Appeal.
He is regularly instructed on complex death in custody cases involving jury inquests and also assists officers facing internal misconduct investigations and hearings.
Tom has particular expertise advising in the aftermath of death or serious injury cases and post-incident procedures following fatal shootings, deaths in custody and pursuits.
Tom regularly lectures and provides training on key topics for the Police Federation and organisations such as the Police Firearms Officers Association.
