Career

Miranda Nagy is a Principal Lawyer in Maurice Blackburn’s class actions department in Sydney. She is a leading lawyer in complex litigation around consumer protection and corporate accountability in Australia.

Currently she leads a class action on behalf of over 300,000 MLC Super Fund superannuation fund members alleging breaches of trustee duties in the implementation of the MySuper reforms.  Among her achievements are:

  • Leading and settling four consumer class actions against Cash Converters International Limited on behalf of payday loan borrowers in Queensland and NSW, which settled for $89m in total;
  • Leading various cases against listed companies for breach of continuous disclosure obligations;
  • Leading a number of public interest cases including a class action on behalf of children unlawfully arrested by NSW police.

She takes a forensic approach to her work on behalf of class members, and has a special interest in investigating and litigating mass claims on behalf of retail consumers and in the consumer credit and banking space.

“Class action law is a very powerful mechanism for vindicating the rights of those who are most vulnerable, defending victims of mass wrongdoing and enforcing proper corporate behaviour. I have a strong conviction that the community should be able to expect our governments and the companies we deal with to comply with legal protections that have been hard fought for and won.”
