Position

Qualifying in 1999, James trained at, and worked for, a number of large regional law firms before joining Tozers to lead the Company and Commercial Team. James works closely with business clients of all sizes, and in all stages of the business lifecycle.

His particular specialism and individual focus are on corporate transactions. James invests time in getting to know his clients and understanding their aspirations. This understanding is essential when dealing with intensive negotiations, and as a strong communicator James never loses sight that everyone is working towards a common goal.

As well as advising companies and individuals who wish to sell or purchase a business or company, James and his team also advise on equity investments, reorganisations, shareholders’ agreements and commercial agreements.

James is ranked as a Band 2 solicitor for Corporate M&A in Chambers & Partners 2024 directory, with client reviews saying “James Orpin is very pragmatic and understands the issues.”, “He knows how to get a deal done.”

Recent cases

• Individual shareholders – we acted on the sale of shares in AES Sustainability Consultants Limited and Domestic Air Leakage Testing Energy Consultants Limited pursuant to a management buy-out. The companies are leading technical consultancies delivering solutions to the housebuilding and construction industries
• Duo Group Holdings Limited – we acted on the acquisition of 10 companies to form the enlarged Duo Group which is a market leading company that provides the aggregate, recycling and material handling industries with comprehensive packages of complete processing solutions
• Individual shareholders – we acted on the sale of Evidence Group Limited and Barbican Animal Health Limited to Map of Agriculture Group Ltd, which is a global pioneer in agricultural analysis and modelling technology.
