A highly regarded construction and engineering lawyer, Ron is the head of construction disputes for the Middle East region. He is valued by his clients for providing practical legal and strategic advice. Ron is renowned for his commitment in pursuing his clients’ commercial and legal objectives, as well looking at innovative solutions.

Ron has over three decades of experience advising developers and contractors on construction, infrastructure and engineering projects globally. This includes more than a decade working with clients in the Middle East.

Ron has been involved in some of the world’s largest projects, spanning sectors such as civil infrastructure, power, waste, oil and gas, as well as roads, rail, airports, commercial developments, sports and leisure facilities and residential schemes.

He is experienced in all major forms of procurement, including EPC, EPIC, DBFO, PPP, and partnering. Additionally, he is well-versed in using all principal contract forms, such as FIDIC, NEC, ICE, IChemE, GC/Works, JCT, and various bespoke contracts. He also has significant expertise in real-time project management for pre-dispute and dispute matters, including arbitration, litigation, adjudication, arbitration (under ICC, LCIA and UNCITRAL Rules amongst others) and mediation.

Ron also regularly lectures on construction and engineering law issues.

Stephenson Harwood Middle East LLP leverages the full scale of its Middle East practice to competently advise clients on energy and infrastructure projects, covering M&A, finance, project development, and disputes. Stephenson Harwood Middle East LLP strengthened its disputes offering with the 2024 hires of John Lewis, formerly of Charles Russell Speechlys, who now leads the team, and Mohamed ElHawawy and Khurram Ali, who both joined from Ince & Co. Additionally, construction specialist Ron Nobbs relocated from the firm’s London office in October 2024. These additions add to an already deep team of advisors well-positioned to act on the full range of disputes,  often multi-jurisdictional. Lewis has longstanding experience in professional negligence claims, and Rania Tadros is sought out for supply chain and shareholder issues. A specialist in the shipping sector, Mark Lakin is valued by clients for his expertise in fraud disputes. Philip Clarke brings further capabilities in contentious regulatory matters, internal investigations and cross-border enforcement proceedings to the fore, while Saif Almobideen’s practice focuses on civil law matters. Magda Kofluk adds support on construction disputes. Ryan Whelan joined the firm from Akin in July 2025.
