  • Advising Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, GIC, on its acquisition of a minority interest in Myanmar’s Yoma Bank Limited (“Yoma Bank”). Yoma Bank is one of Myanmar’s largest lenders and was founded by Serge Pun in 1993. GIC will acquire approximately 20 per cent. of Yoma Bank.
  • Advised on the Joint venture with China Gezhouba Group Cement Co., Ltd and China Gezhouba Group Overseas Investment Co., Ltd in Myanmar to develop a limestone mine and a cement factory Advised YIG, as transaction counsel, in entering a joint venture agreement with China Gezhouba Group Cement Co., Ltd and China Gezhouba Group Overseas Investment Co., Ltd (collectively, “GZB”) to mine limestones and product cement products in Mandalay, Myanmar.
  • Advised Ant, as Myanmar counsel, on its US$73.5 million investment in Digital Money Myanmar Limited, a mobile payments company incorporated in Myanmar, in a joint venture with Norwegian-based Telenor group and Myanmar-based Yoma group.

Myanmar > Projects Tier 1

Allen & Gledhill (Myanmar) Co., Ltd has a well-established projects practice assisting international companies on high-end power and energy projects, shopping malls developments, and banking transactions. Minn Naing Oo advises on infrastructure projects across ports and urban developments. In a representative matter, the group is advising on a liquefied petroleum gas facility in Myanmar. Oh Hsiu-Hau is a key member of the group advising on corporate elements, whilst banking partner Lee Jun Yee handles M&A matters. Work highlights

  • Advising NYDC, a company established by the Yangon Regional Government, as transaction counsel, on the $1.5bn phase 1 development of the New Yangon City in the western Yangon region of Myanmar.
  • Advising CECA Gold on the development of a liquefied petroleum gas receiving, tanking, storage and bottling facility in Kyauk Tan Township Thilawa, Myanmar. The matter is cross border (spanning Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar) and involved a multidisciplinary team from Singapore and Myanmar.

Vietnam > Corporate and M&A Tier 1

Allen & Gledhill (Vietnam) was established in October 2020 as part of the firm’s expansion in South East Asia. Under the leadership of Hsiu-Hau Oh, the firm has built a 12-strong team, which covers the entire ambit of domestic and cross-border corporate and M&A work for clients. Its recent mandates spanned areas such as real estate, renewable energy and e-commerce. Tran Thi Phuong Thao and Phan Vinh Nhan joined from Rajah & Tann LCT Lawyers and YKVN respectively.
