Suraj is an experienced solicitor specialising in premises licensing, associated compliance and regulatory matters. He represents clients in the trade from individuals and independents to national operators with multiple sites including leading major pub and entertainment venue companies, bars, nightclubs, restaurants, event spaces, hotels, developers, late night food operators and online alcohol delivery and food businesses. He also advises on due diligence related to the acquisition and disposal of licensed premises and relevant licensing provisions within related contracts as well as representing clients at contested licensing hearings. He has also been involved in licensing reviews and appeals.
He contributes regularly to the industry publication the Morning Advertiser, in particular their legal section, and is the author of various Poppleston Allen trade guides, articles and research surveys, including those on the Late Night Levy, EMROs and Cumulative Impact Polices which have been referenced and published in the trade and national press. He also delivers licensing training for operators, local authorities and trade bodies
