Career

Grant leads the firm’s catastrophic personal injury team. A specialist in life-changing and fatal injury claims, Grant has strong experience regarding road traffic collisions, employers and public liability injuries and criminal injuries. He has a deep understanding of head, spinal, amputation and fatal injuries.

Prominent for his expertise in cycling-related injuries, Grant has a recognised niche in cycling claims, dealing with maximum severity claims including those involving tetraplegia and paraplegia. His knowledge of such cases in the context of road traffic collisions and breaches of the Highways Act 1980 (‘pothole cases’) is extensive.

Grant has vast experience of the issues around, and quantification of, catastrophic and fatal injury cases. Practiced in representing families in the worst of situations, Grant works vigorously to achieve optimal damages awards to protect spouses’ and dependents’ financial futures.

Early intervention with a strong focus on rehabilitation is central to Grant’s approach for his clients. There is an immediate window of opportunity to implement rehabilitation such that it maximises the client’s chances of returning as fully as possible to their life pre-injury. The earlier rehabilitation starts, the better in order to achieve the best possible outcome. Each case turns on its merits, but where it is possible to establish some early contact with the defendant (usually an insurer), an early admission of liability and a simple agreement can enable us to secure an interim payment that will help fund and implement a vital rehabilitation package, while the claim itself is being sorted out. The benefits can be significant, serving to rebuild not just the lives of clients but also their families.

Barr Ellison LLP in Cambridge has an outstanding catastrophic personal injury practice. ‘The team has a super local and welcoming feel which belies the steely approach to litigating cases hard for their clients‘, remarks one client. The departure of Emma Truin and Mark Copley, who joined Birmingham-based HCC Solicitors, Grant Incles now leads the team; he is supported by associate Lucy Spraggons.
