Career

Marwa Bamatraf is a Partner at Sharq Law Firm and leads the firm’s Corporate and Commercial team. She advises sovereigns, state-owned entities, and listed companies on capital markets transactions, cross-border deals, and corporate governance matters.

Her experience includes advising on Qatar’s sovereign bond programme, IPOs, Islamic finance, and the structuring of public shareholding companies. She acts as Qatari counsel on complex regulatory and transactional mandates, with a particular focus on financial services, tax infrastructure, and utilities.

Marwa is also regularly engaged by government-linked clients to assist with the drafting of Emiri decrees, executive regulations, and legal frameworks. She has appeared as an expert on Qatari law in international arbitrations involving construction, procurement, and commercial guarantees.

Selected Experience:

  • Advising the State of Qatar on its USD 12.5 billion Global Medium Term Note programme, including disclosure, regulatory approvals, and legal opinions.
  • Advising on the merger and proposed IPO of two national utility providers, including corporate structuring and regulatory strategy.
  • Supporting the conversion and listing of companies in healthcare, logistics, and energy on the Qatar Exchange Venture Market.
  • Advising on a QAR 2.2 billion Islamic finance facility, including structuring and documentation under Qatari law.
  • Providing expert evidence on Qatari law in international arbitration proceedings.
  • Drafting legislation and regulatory instruments for major public-sector clients across infrastructure and education.

Marwa holds an LLB from Qatar University and postgraduate legal qualifications from BPP Law School in the UK. She is fluent in Arabic and English.

She is recognised as an IFLR1000 Notable Practitioner (2024), IFLR1000 Woman Leader (2024), and Next Generation Partner in Banking, Finance and Capital Markets by The Legal 500 (2025).
