Career

Kyle Grootboom is an Associate in Sharq Law Firm’s Corporate & Commercial team. A South African-qualified lawyer based in Doha, he advises on construction disputes, commercial arbitration, and complex contract matters under Qatari law and regional legal frameworks.

Kyle supports clients across the infrastructure, real estate, and commercial sectors on contentious and transactional matters. His experience includes advising on claims arising from bespoke and standard-form contracts, drafting and reviewing construction agreements, and supporting proceedings before leading arbitral institutions, including DIAC, QICCA, and ICC.

Select Experience:

• Assisting in a DIAC arbitration seated in Cyprus involving the voidance of a consulting agreement under Qatari law (USD 58 million dispute).
• Supporting a listed developer in QICCA arbitration proceedings concerning disputes under two FM contracts (QAR 35 million).
• Acting in an ICC arbitration seated in Doha concerning the construction of a commercial building under a FIDIC Red Book and bespoke collaboration agreement (QAR 50 million).
• Assisting in a legal due diligence for the IPO of a leading EPC and maintenance contractor
• Assisting in a legal due diligence for the IPO of a major insurance company
• Drafting and assisting in structuring a long-term lease between a listed developer and an anchor retailing company for a mixed-use development (QAR 12.5 million)
• Drafting a termination and settlement agreement between a developer and a management services provider concerning the development and operation of a hotel and beach club (QAR 20 million)
• Advising on the drafting and negotiation of construction and procurement agreements for projects across Qatar and the wider GCC.

Kyle holds an LLB from the University of Pretoria and is admitted as an attorney in South Africa. He is fluent in English and Afrikaans
