Mr Josias de Salles is Counsel in Sharq Law Firm’s Construction and Arbitration team. A British lawyer based in Doha, he is ranked as an Up and Coming practitioner in International Arbitration by Chambers Global and recognised for his ability to lead complex, multi-jurisdictional mandates with clarity and strategic focus.

Josias advises on contentious and non-contentious matters across construction, infrastructure, and real estate. He regularly acts as counsel in international arbitrations seated in Qatar and abroad, under ICC, DIAC, and QICCA rules. His disputes work spans claims under FIDIC and bespoke contracts, shareholder disputes, and performance bond enforcement. On the advisory side, he supports clients throughout the project lifecycle—from risk allocation and contract negotiation to dispute avoidance and settlement strategy. He frequently advises on BOT frameworks, off-plan sale structures, and institutional development agreements, particularly in the Qatari public and semi-governmental sectors.

Selected Experience:

  • Counsel in a QAR 400 million ICC arbitration concerning a major metro project (FIDIC Red Book).
  • Representing the Respondents in a USD 58 million DIAC arbitration concerning contract voidance under Qatari law.
  • Acting in a QICCA arbitration for a listed developer concerning FM services and bespoke facilities contracts.
  • Successfully defended a shipping company in arbitration concerning performance bond enforcement and construction disputes across five developments.
  • Advised a government entity on the pre-litigation settlement of a QAR 1 billion infrastructure dispute.
  • Drafted and negotiated a QAR 1.4 billion BOT project agreement for a residential and retail compound in Doha.
  • Counsel to a developer on off-plan sales, master contractor arrangements, and project structuring for multiple developments in Lusail.

He has been recognised as a Future Leader in Arbitration by Lexology (2025), an Up and Coming  by Chambers & Partners (2025), and a Leading Associate and Rising Star in Projects, Real Estate & Construction by The Legal 500 (2024–2025).
