Career

James acts for private landowners on the sale and purchase of agricultural land and farm mortgages. He deals with a range of properties from large estates, farms and country houses to paddocks, cottages and barn conversions. He also acts for banks on obtaining security over these kinds of properties and for landowning charities.

He has experience of voluntary registrations at the Land Registry of large estates and has dealt with the conveyancing aspects of inter-family land rearrangements (often including partnerships and trusts).

James also assists clients with the acquisition and disposal of development sites including overage or development claw back and the grant of rights for utilities.

Through his on going estate advisory work James has experience of Agricultural Holdings Act Tenancies and preparing Farm Business Tenancies and Assured Shorthold Tenancies.  He also advises on land management agreements.

Memberships

James is a member of the Agricultural Law Association.

Education

James has advised on rural property since 2004 and has an interest in rural heritage, nature and the countryside.  Professionally his interests include Agricultural Holdings Act Tenancies and Stamp Duty Land Tax.
