Career
With significant experience in representing key players and household names across diverse industries, including FMCG, life sciences, sports, and consumer electronics, Mathis Breuer focuses on soft IP litigation as the core of his practice. He continuously represents his clients both in main and preliminary injunction proceedings before all major IP courts in Germany, as well as before the EUIPO, the EU Courts and the German IPO. He is also experienced in coordinating multi-jurisdictional and global litigation strategies, always striving to achieve the legally and commercially optimal outcome for his clients. His work spans all areas of IP protection and enforcement, with a strong focus on trademarks, unfair competition (including lookalike cases), and advertising.
In addition to litigation, he provides strategic advice on IP portfolios, product launches, advertising campaigns, and IP-related contracts, helping clients proactively secure and leverage their IP assets. He also delivers strategic guidance on healthcare and cosmetics advertising, helping clients navigate complex legal frameworks in this highly regulated sector.
Mathis has been working as an attorney-at-law since 2013 and joined HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER in 2015 where he became partner in 2021. His international experience, including a secondment at a top IP law firm in Seoul, has further enriched his understanding of cross-border IP issues.
Mathis publishes regularly on various subjects of IP law. He studied law at the University of Düsseldorf, where he began specializing in IP law. Following his studies, he continued his specialization at an international law firm with a strong focus on IP law. During his legal clerkship, he worked for a specialized district court division for IP matters, a leading international law firm, and a large sports federation. After being admitted to the bar, Mathis gained further experience in IP litigation working for a magic circle firm.
