Jadek & Pensa
We believe that economy and thereby our firm are (co)responsible for sustainable development, consistent with protected human rights. We are trying to transfer this belief in a balanced manner also to our clients. In providing our services and legal advice, we encourage our clients in an appropriate manner to efficient and consistent operation in terms of human rights protection.
However, we know that from the point of view of human rights protection, it is important that the victims of human rights violation have access to efficient legal means, which can be ensured only through high-quality legal assistance. We deem high-quality representation and legal assistance for socially disadvantaged persons are part of our duties. Therefore, we encourage our employees to devote a part of their time to work on the matters that according to their nature could contribute to activities consistent with protected human rights in all fields of human development and would thus contribute to socially responsible behaviour and sustainable development. In cases where this is appropriate with regard to the circumstances of an individual matter, we offer our advice and services free of charge –pro bono.
In year 2019 we carried out many exiting pro-bono projects.
As local experts we have contributed to a major pro bono project being conducted on behalf of Dr. David Boyd, the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights and the Environment. Under this project we researched the human right to a healthy environment and good practices related to the recognition and implementation of the right to a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment under Slovenian law. The final report was presented by the UN special Rapporteur to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday 2 March 2020. A copy of the final report is available here: https://www.ohchr.org/EN/Issues/Environment/SREnvironment/Pages/Annualreports.aspx.
We have also represented several groups of villagers in the dispute with the Municipality over the ownership of the aqueduct and the right of drinking water. We were very glad that we managed to reach a settlement.
Last but not least, we were also working on the research project for the Centre for Reproductive Rights in relation to asylum regulations and reproductive rights.
Also in 2020 we will continue to support our pro bono work and try to contribute with our expertise to better, more just and more sustainable world.
