Position

George is a partner in the firm’s Corporate Department.

He has advised on many of the most significant Irish corporate transactions of recent years including:

  • Allergan’s $66 billion merger with Actavis;
  • unsuccesful bid to acquire eircom from examinership on behalf of an international telecommunications group;
  • the Actavis $8.5 billion acquisition of Warner Chilcott;
  • the $6.5 billion hostile bid by Royalty Pharma for Elan Corporation;
  • Medtronic’s proposed $42.9 billion acquisition of Covidien plc;
  • Eaton Corporation’s $11.8 billion acquisition of Cooper Industries;
  • the $5.6 billion merger of Questcor and Mallinckrodt;
  • Babcock & Brown on its €2.3 billion acquisition of eircom; and
  • the $2.6 billion acquisition of Auxilium Pharmaceuticals by Endo International.

George previously worked in the London office of a leading international law firm and has been a partner since 2003.

Admitted to the New York Bar; Qualified as a solicitor of Supreme Court of England and Wales (non-practising); DePaul University, US (Law School); University College Dublin (BCL, International).

Matheson LLP has a big presence in both ECM and DCM. It is widely recognised for corporate re-domiciliations, M&A inversions and other ECM transactions. It has extensive experience in capital markets matters involving European and US exchanges and the ECM team has worked on a series of recent headline cross-border M&A transactions and de-SPAC deals. David Fitzgibbon, Fergus Bolster and George Brady are seasoned practitioners in the ECM space. The firm has an outstanding record in structured finance, securitisation, DCM and derivatives. It works with a range of clients on trade receivables, CLOs, commercial and residential mortgages, auto receivables, non-performing loans transactions and multiple other deals in the sphere. Turlough Galvin and CLO specialist Christian Donagh are at the pinnacle of the market, along with Vincent McConnon and William Foot. Richard Kelly has left the firm.
