Victor Mokrousov worked alongside Dubai-based Louise Roman to advise KazMunayGas on a tender offer, buying back $3.5bn of notes. Mokrousov also advised Kazakhtelecom on obtaining loans from several local banks.

Dentons provides ‘prompt advice to lenders while keeping excellent relations with borrowers’. Abai Shaikenov advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on a dual tranche ($14m and ₸30bn) unsecured acquisition financing of dry cargo vessels.

Kinstellar LLP is ‘one of the top firms: responsive, commercial and reliable’. Joel Benjamin leads a team advising a consortium of banks on the financing of Tengizchevroil via bonds and loan facilities totalling $37bn. Adlet Yerkinbayev is ‘commercial and practical’.

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP uses expertise in Kazakhstan and elsewhere to advise lenders, issuers and borrowers on finance and capital markets. Practice head Aset Shyngyssov advised Kaspi Bank on a $44m buy-back of bonds. Highlights included advising Citigroup as lead arranger of a sovereign global depository note programme. Curtis Masters is a key contact for finance. Grata International is ‘excellent value for money, with dedicated professionals’. Practice head Shaimerden Chikanayev recently advised a syndicate on a $1.8bn gas pipeline project financing; Marina Kahiani has ‘a very pragmatic approach’.

Reed Smith LLP’s Askar Zhansagimov advised the Kazakh government on an update of its $10bn Eurobond programme. In other work, Belinda Paisley advised the borrower on financing of the Balkhash thermal power plant.

Centil Lawdemonstrates thoughtfulness, business acumen and care for clients’. Clients include China Development Bank Corporation, which Tashkent-based Sofiya Shaykhrazieva advised on a sizeable loan to an infrastructure project.

Integrites handles matters such as loan securities and lender-borrower litigation. Duman Akhmetov advised KazPetrol on a cross-border loan from Sberbank.

Linkage & Mind LLP advises on a range of project finance matters. Yerzhan Manasov advised Samruk-Energy on the financing of the Balkhashkaya CHP plant project.

Rashid Gaissin leads the practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers Tax & Advisory LLP, which advises banks on lending matters and recently acted for VTB Bank on a loan to Eurasian Resources Group.
