Ali Sharif Zu'bi Advocates & Legal Consultants handles a broad range of energy projects and is particularly active in renewables; it is advising the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the financing of three solar projects and is assisting French renewable energy provider Neoen with a solar energy transmission project. Other highlights included acting for the International Finance Corporation on the financing of two wind farms. Managing partner Khaled Asfour heads the projects team.

International Business Legal Associates (IBLAW) advises clients from across the energy sector and has been closely involved in major regulatory and transactional developments in the industry. The team handles development, risk assessment, construction and leasing, and has acted for clients such as Aqaba Development Corporation.

Ala’ Khalifeh heads the energy-focused projects and finance practice at Khalifeh & Partners Lawyers, which advises sponsors and developers in the renewable and conventional energy sectors. Highlights included acting as lead legal counsel to Shamara Holding Group on the development of a 3,000MW independent power plant in Iraq, advising a consortium on the financing and development of a solar power plant in Jordan, as well as assisting the lenders with the financing of an oil shale-fired power plant project.

Rajai K.W. Dajani & Associates has advised on projects in the education, renewable energy and nuclear power sectors. It recently acted alongside an international law firm in connection with the construction and operation of a wind farm in Jordan and is assisting a service provider with its bid for a local nuclear power project. Safwan Moubaydeen Law Firm in association with Dentons has experience of a range of energy and infrastructure matters. It is lead counsel to Amman Asia Electric Power Company, which it is advising on corporate and commercial matters relating to the IPP3 project, an independent power project to reduce dependency on Egyptian gas. The team also has been assisting Turkish contracting and construction group Gama with litigious matters. Managing partner Safwan Moubaydeen is recommended.

Sanad Law Group in association with Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP’s project and infrastructure practice is led by Iyad Zawaideh, who is particularly knowledgeable about project finance and PPPs. The team advised National Electric Power Company on the drafting and negotiation of a power purchase agreement relating to a thermal power plant. It also acted on the majority of solar power projects put forward during a proposal submission process for the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, which involved assisting developers, shareholders, project companies and EPC contractors.

Khaled Saqqaf heads the team at Al Tamimi & Company, which has been advising urban investment company and developer Eagle Hills on the management of several large projects which it recently acquired in Jordan. Other work included advising the International Road Transport Union on a joint venture with the Arab Union of Land Transport.

Rami Hashem heads the projects and energy practice at Hashem Law Office, which continues to advise longstanding client Jordan Electricity Company on its energy projects, particularly in a contentious context. The team also acts for clients in the renewable energy, real estate and tourism sectors.
