BBA’s banking and finance practice acted as local counsel for ABN Amro and other international banks on Noble Clean Fuels’ $1bn financing deal. The highly regarded Bjarki Diego leads advice to Thorsil on the €360m financing of a metal silicon plant. Ásgeir Ragnarsson and Baldvin Björn Haraldsson head the practice based in Reykjavík, which also includes Antoine Lochet situated in Paris and the recently hired Ólafur Jóhannes Einarsson in Brussels.

The banking and finance team at Lex Law Offices advised Reykjavík Energy on a ISK50bn bond prospectus and is instructed by Morgan Stanley International in the IPO of Arion Bank. Clients include the three major banks, Arion Bank, Islandsbanki and Landsbankinn – with practice head Ólafur Haraldsson being their key contact – in addition to the Central Bank Asset Management Company, Deutsche Bank and Kaupthing. Aðalsteinn Jónasson and Gunnar Viðar are other key names to note.

LOGOS’s banking and finance practice ‘stands out’ for its ‘first-class service’ and ‘value for money’. The ‘knowledgeable and experienced’ team was instructed by Kaupthing on its ISK49bn share offering. With support from Ólafur Sigurðsson, the ‘incredibly efficientBenedikt Egill Árnason advised Síminn on its ISK20.4bn group refinancing. Clients also include Bull Hill Capital and Nordea Bank.

The ADVEL Attorneys at Law team represents Arion Bank in a range of complex matters, including in updates and amendments to the bank’s NOK500m bond issuance to the Oslo Stock Exchange in 2013. Practice head Kristinn Hallgrímsson and head of the international team Stefán Þór Ingimarsson are key contacts. Clients include N1, HB Grandi and Advania Group.

The ‘excellent’ banking and finance practice at Juris advised Reginn on the launch of its ISK70bn note programme. It is also assisting Sunnuvellir with the $900m equity financing of Sillicor’s proposed solar silicon plant. Stefán A. Svensson represents Kaupthing Bank in claims arising from winding-up procedures. Simon Knight, project finance expert Finnur Magnússon and consultant Katherine Nichols are highly regarded.

Landslog – Law Offices’ team is experienced in dealing with banking and finance disputes and defends the winding-up board of Kaupthing in claims from Spron. The practice also advises the Financial Supervisory Authority on the implications of the 2010 Supreme Court ruling on the illegality of foreign currency loans to the financial sector. Atlantik Legal Services advised Sandur on the financing of its acquisition of ISS Ísland. It also acted for Íslensk verðbréf on a syndicated mezzanine credit facility to Pt Capital Advisors as part of the funding of its ISK16bn acquisition of Nova. Managing partner Bogi Guðmundsson heads the team alongside Benedetto Nardini.

Led by Fridrik Ársaelsson, the Réttur – Adalsteinsson & Partners team represented Bayerische Landesbank and other international creditors of insolvent Icelandic savings banks in a matter valued at over ISK100bn. The practice also advises domestic and international clients, including Commerzbank AG, BNP Paribas and Bayerische Landesbank, in relation to capital controls and foreign investment.
